Now that your bathroom remodel is finished, you may find that it still just doesn’t look right. Probably a want for individuality and sense of style was the reason for the bathroom remodel in the first place. Once the work has been done, there are a few things you can do to really give your newly remodeled bathroom a truly finished and unique look.

Simple details are the real key to putting the finishing touches on a bathroom remodel. Adding a shelf along one wall can go a long way to making your bathroom unique to all the others. Maybe display a few framed prints or any small collectibles you have. Your remodeled bathroom may be the perfect place for that perfume bottle collection you have lying around. Any newly remodeled bathroom also looks great with a few pictures. If you’ve gone for a spa feel in your bathroom remodel, try pictures with a nature theme or just abstract art that matches the color scheme.

Another great way to finish off your bathroom remodel is to find a stylish way to store all your toiletries. Soap, bath salts, shaving cream, toothpaste, it can all make the room look cluttered. Go shopping and find some antique bowls, or something that best matches your décor and store all these things in there.

If your remodeled bathroom is especially spacious, there’s no reason not to use that extra space. Bring in a wicker chair or a small table to take up some room. This is also something to use as a decorating tool in your bathroom remodel. Coordinate the items in your shelf to the items on the table to create a lovely theme throughout the room.

Buying some accessories can be the best finishing touch to a bathroom remodel. Accent lighting can be added in a few different ways, depending on the look you’re looking to create. Putting a low-voltage strip of lights along the top of the wall tile gives lots of light but not in a direct or glaring way. Or perhaps putting in a dimmer for the light you already have can finish the bathroom remodel perfectly. That will allow you soft light when needed or a lot of direct light if that’s what you need at the moment. If you put in high ceilings in the bathroom remodel then add some decorative wood beams along the ceiling. This is inexpensive and will draw attention to your new ceilings.

Or if you have a small bathroom, you can give it the impression of being bigger in this finale of the bathroom remodel. Line an entire wall with mirrored cabinets. This will not only give you storage space but also make the bathroom more open. This can also work with the main mirror above the sink. Perhaps buy one that’s a little bigger and frame it with tile. Mix and match your colors and this will give the room the open feeling of a window as well.

It’s no secret that the most expensive place in the house to remodel is the bathroom. This is especially true when the bathroom remodel includes damage. Bathrooms are typically small, humid and the plumbing can create infrastructure problems; especially in older homes. The real downside in a bathroom remodel is when you have no idea the problem exists until you’ve already hired the contractors. When considering a bathroom remodel, you need to know what to expect.

First, don’t cover anything up. A lot of the time, people will cover up damaged tile with acrylic paneling. Most of the time the issue they’re covering up is water and humidity damage. Covering this up only creating more problems as its now the perfect place to foster mold growth. Mold does best in a warm, dark place. Covering damaged tile will only give mold the perfect place to thrive. It will create even more problems in a bathroom remodel later if this isn’t handled. Older bathrooms have carpet a lot of the time, this is also a great place for mold. Knowing about it beforehand will definitely keep you budget down for a bathroom remodel. Another problem in older bathrooms is the drywall. Drywall just cannot deal with the humidity and moisture in a bathroom, removing it and replacing it is the only feasible option.

Once you start removing all the fixtures in the room for your bathroom remodel, this is really the time you’ll find out how many problems there are. Removing the bathtub will often reveal damage to the wall and floor around and behind it. If you decide to do all the demolition work yourself, be sure to call in a mold expert before you actually get started on the bathroom remodel. The floor beneath the tub can often be warped or damaged. If there is damage, check the room beneath the bathroom to check the state of the damage. This is also a time to call in an expert before the bathroom remodel. If there’s problems with the underlying joists or floor beams, that will need to be fixed.

Many older homes have old fixtures that can present problems in a bathroom remodel. If the fixtures haven’t been updated in the last 20 years or so, there will likely be plumbing issues. Lead pipe may need to be replaced to bring the bathroom up to code. If the bathroom has cast iron plumbing this can be very expensive to repair or tie into during the bathroom remodel.

These are the most common problems you can encounter before a bathroom remodel. Being aware of it and handling a lot of the repair work before the remodeling work begins will save you money in the long run. If you know what to expect and how to properly fix it, you can make your bathroom remodel very affordable and easy to deal with. Don’t cut any corners on fixing the damage and you’ll have an end result you are thrilled about for years to come.

For most people times are pretty tough in the finance department right now. So you may be wondering if you can really afford a bathroom remodel. The good news is that there are many things you can do for relatively cheap and still improve the overall feel and look of your bathroom. Really all you need is about $1500, or less if you really know how to shop around.

The least expensive upgrade you can make in a bathroom remodel is a new coat of paint. It may not seem like much but it can change the whole appeal of the room. For example changing the color from white to a deep burgundy can make it feel more like a spa and a place to relax. This is the simplest bathroom remodel idea and can be done in just a handful of hours.

If you look at your shower and tub, do you see the bright white caulking that once used to be there? Probably not if you’ve been there a few years. More than likely you’re seeing dirty, cracked, ragged caulking that has given into time and age. Time for another inexpensive bathroom remodel. A few tubes of caulk will cost you almost nothing. However be sure it’s the kind specially designed for bathroom use, it fights mildew build up.

You may think that replacing an entire appliance would be extremely expensive. That is not always the case. When going through a bathroom remodel, replacing your toilet can cost as little as $200. With all the options for toilets these days, you can even get one to match your new paint. This might also be a good time to do yourself, and the environment, a favor by getting a dual flush toilet. They use less water when flushing liquids, which can cut down on your water bill. So not only will you remodel your bathroom, but save some money too. Replacing the sink during your bathroom remodel is also a good idea. The price will run you about the same as replacing the toilet. If you go shopping for them both at once, you can find them to match and maybe even get a price break for your bathroom remodel project.

Any new room can only benefit from new lighting. A bathroom remodel is the perfect time to do that. If you get some stylish new fixtures you can really modernize your bathroom. Perhaps you can to increase the feeling of being at a luxury spa by getting a light that dims. Or perhaps you prefer a bathroom full of light and with no dark shadows.

Finally you can finish off your bathroom remodel by getting some new towels, bathmats and any other accessories you want. Maybe some color matching candles to line the tub and counter with. At any rate all these inexpensive steps to a bathroom remodel will lead you to a more stylish, modern and relaxing bathroom.
